eBay and Nike re-release holy grail of sneakers after 20 years

eBay and Nike are reissuing the “eBay Dunk,” a tribute to the “Charity Dunk” sneaker released 20 years ago which merged a skate shoe with eBay colours.

The only sneaker was originally sold on eBay for $USD30,000 raising money for charity. The samples were destroyed with one pair being sawed into four pieces to protect the value of the auctioned pair, which is considered the rarest Nike SB sneaker.

In honour of the pioneer of Nike SB and owner of the original “Charity Dunk”, Sandy Bodecker, eBay is auctioning off 10 collectors’ edition tribute packages with all proceeds supporting the Bodecker Foundation which empowers creative youth.

Australians can bid in the auction which will run for seven days until 2:00am Thursday 15th December AEDT.

eBay Australia sneaker expert, Alaister Low said, “eBay was one of the first sneaker marketplaces to sell Nike SB Dunks and with hundreds of Nike SB Dunk listings on site, eBay is the go-to destination for sneakerheads and skaters to discover a wide selection of rare and collectible sneakers.

“Skater culture is synonymous with sneaker culture, and we see that reflected on eBay with a skateboard sold every 30 seconds and a sneaker sold every two minutes. The Nike SB eBay Dunk is the ultimate collector’s piece and with limited pairs available, we anticipate Aussie sneakerheads will rush to get their hands on this highly prized shoe.

“When buying rare, collectible sneakers, Australians can have the confidence to know they’re buying the real deal with eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee which has seen two million sneakers authenticated globally.”

Data from ebay.com.au reveals the most popular city for Nike SB Dunks is Adelaide, the most popular SB Dunk on ebay.com.au is the Nike SB Dunk Low Phillies and the most expensive SB Dunk sold on eBay this year was the SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger for $4,700.

Each of the 10 tribute packages up for auction include one collector’s edition tribute pair based on the original SB Charity Dunk which was sawed into four pieces, a pair of the 2022 general release Nike SB eBay Dunk and a commemorative saw – all packaged in the world’s first skateable sneaker box.
